This anonymised Shopify store had solid products and a decent blog — but its internal structure was quietly holding it back. A RankForge audit surfaced where authority was trapped and which revenue pages were being starved. Here's what we found and what changed.

What the audit found

18

Orphaned product pages

Products reachable only through deep collection pagination, with no inbound contextual links.

41%

Authority on the homepage

Nearly half of all internal authority pooled on a single page instead of flowing to products.

3

Blog → product links

The blog drove traffic but almost never linked to the commercial pages it discussed.

22

Internal links to add

High-impact, contextually relevant links the audit recommended adding.

What was changed

check_circleAdded contextual links from high-traffic blog posts to the related product and collection pages.
check_circleLinked top collections to related collections to spread authority laterally instead of pooling it on the homepage.
check_circleReconnected the 18 orphaned products from relevant collections and buying guides.

The problem: products nobody linked to

On Shopify, products often live only behind collection pagination. Search engines crawl them shallowly, they receive little internal authority, and they struggle to rank — even when the product itself is great. This store had 18 such products, several of them best-sellers.

The fix: route authority to revenue pages

Rather than adding links everywhere, the audit prioritised the few links with the most impact: blog posts that already ranked, pointing to the commercial pages they mentioned, with descriptive anchor text. That's the difference between a list of issues and a list of actions.

The result

After the recommended links went live, the store's structural health score moved from 48 to 76, and previously-orphaned products entered the internal link graph for the first time. Structural fixes don't rank pages overnight — but they remove the ceiling that was holding them down.
